AJ McCarron committed to Alabama Saturday evening. McCarron was wanted by Miami, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Auburn, West Virginia, Florida State, Purdue (hey, it is an engineering school, they don’t care about a typo…but I fixed it just for the complainer) and Tennessee—he held offers from all those schools, but McCarron picked Alabama.
Rivals.com reported McCarron committed because in his heart he knew UA was headed in the right direction—a direction toward a national championship.
When I weighted all the positives against each other it wasn’t that close. Alabama had everything I was looking for from football to academics. They were great in every category and I also get to play for the best coaching staff in college football.”
McCarron was heavily courted by Auburn, despite what Phillip Marshall will be writing in the coming days, weeks and months.
The reasons why McCarron picked UA show the snowball effect of Nick Saban’s recruiting efforts. McCarron said last year’s recruiting class got the attention of juniors. Saban was another strong reason; the Alabama head coach made Mobile a priority, and this commitment is another success story.
McCarron and other players are building relationships with Saban. The recruits all say the same things: Nick Saban is a friend. McCarron said he had a “special†relationship with Saban, according to media reports.

So, did the “master recruiting evaluator” aka Tommy Tuberville aka master duck hunter aka the ALABAMA POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE FOOTBALL COACH find some sort of “flaw” in this kid’s ability?
We all know he gets only what he wants, and if he didn’t want this guy, then there was something drastically wrong…
Or could it be he surrendered to avoid the humiliation of knowing another top-tier recruit chose Alabama over the second rate school in West Opelika aka the magical city known as Aubarn in advance?
Awburn fans, never fear, this ain’t my first rodeo. I’ve been in this position before at Tech where I was one-upped in recruiting by Alabama, and even though I got my ass kicked twice, and struggled to beat a 3-9 team by three field goals, I still managed to gain the upper hand in recruiting and I silenced the delusional bammers by defeating them six* consecutive times.
Just because they’re back to where they were when I first came to Awfarm from good ole, Ole Miss, doesn’t mean they’ll beat me on the field like they’re doing in recruiting. I know what I see in these kids that I’m rounding up like the students do those bulls at rodeos here in Opelika. I see a gift that no one else can see. I ain’t the same Tuberville I was when I first came to Tech. Things have changed and I’m so superior now, even Superman wears my pj’s.
I recruit who I want, when I want, and how I want. Nick Saban can give me one hell of a gunfight all he wants, but I’ll definitely be the last man standing come gameday.
It’s definitely been a toad strangler, but I will reign supreme and I will master the SEC with all this Tuberville talent I’m roundin’ up. Look for us to win the BCS Championship in 2008. For as long as I’m a livin’, I’m a winnin’. Fact…

Second, McCarron was heavily courted by Auburn when Borges was still the OC. Recruitment of McCarron ended when TF came to the Plains…mainly because of 4.8 speed and mobility concerns.

thats right MiKe! Auburn was recruiting McCarron when he was in 10TH GRADE. (But dont tell anyone else or the NCAA might put us on probation again. They dont know we were contacting recruits a full year before they are supposed to be contacted!)
