A few random thoughts this morning:

I wonder if any football players will be out at 3 a.m. on the Strip this weekend?

The Tuscaloosa News handling of the David Wasson situation was pathetic. Doug Ray, the executive editor of the News, never responded to questions asked by the Capstone Report. I wonder how the News would react if prominent local officials just ignored questions asked by its reporters. My guess is they’d like officials to respond. I think they should do the same thing when they are in the middle of a story.

Antonio Carter, a GA, could be headed to Appalachian State to coach receivers, according to the Rap Sheet. Best of luck!

Justin Smiley has signed as a free agent with the Miami Dolphins. Smiley signed with the Dolphins for five years at $25 million, and a $9 million signing bonus. Smiley was injured during this last season playing for the 49ers. A few Smiley career highlights:
•Started 36 games for Alabama. Never allowed a quarterback sack during collegiate career.
• Two-time recipient of team’s Sylvester Croom Commitment to Excellence Award and won Mal Moore Leadership Award junior season at Alabama.

• Three-year starter holds school’s weight room record in hang clean with 415-pound lift. 
• Named guard on The Sporting News Freshman All-America third team (2001).
