Update: Future of Croyle in KC

What is the future of Brodie Croyle in Kansas City? You’ve got offensive assistants being fired, the Chiefs losing games they probably shouldn’t, and lots of questions about game management decisions swirling around Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards.

It could mean the future is unclear, but Edwards and other assistants and players with Kansas City continue to say Croyle will be the future starter for the team.

Of course, that could mean Croyle’s future is tied to the future of Edwards.

One newspaper has reported that Edwards has fired his O.C. and three assistants. On tap to lead the K.C. offense? Perhaps a former Alabama coach reports the Topeka Capital-Journal:

Media reports suggest candidates as varied as former Nebraska head coach Bill Callahan to former Alabama head coach David Shula, who was young quarterback Brodie Croyle’s head coach while with the Crimson Tide. Even the name of Paul Hackett, an offensive coordinator under Marty Schottenheimer in Kansas City who also worked with Edwards in New York, has surfaced.

Huh? David Shula? I think they mean Mike.

That would be an interesting hire.

And there is a history between Edwards and Mike Shula, according to this report.

Jacksonville quarterbacks coach Mike Shula also could become a candidate. Shula was the coordinator for Tampa Bay in the late 1990s while Edwards was the Bucs’ secondary coach. Shula later was the head coach at Alabama when Brodie Croyle quarterbacked the Crimson Tide.

It could be interesting to see how this unfolds, and if Shula gets the job.
