Fickle football fans in and around the BIG XII could see a host of coaching changes at year’s end. Among the expected casualties are: Texas A&M’s Dennis Franchione, Nebraska’s Bill Callahan, Baylor’s Guy Morriss, SMU’s Phil Bennett and of course SEC’s Houston Nutt at Arkansas.

As the speculation heats up, this column (SEE BELOW) in the Dallas Morning News made mention of hot replacements: Rutgers’ Greg Schiano, Cal’s Jeff Tedford, Auburn’s Tommy Tuberville to just-off-the-radar types like former Packers coach Mike Sherman to up-and-coming coordinators like LSU’s Bo Pelini and Alabama’s Major Applewhite.

It is interesting to see Applewhite’s name mentioned aleady as a hot commodity. No doubt the performance of the Alabama offense last week will make him even hotter.

What happens is anyone’s guess. However, there will be enormous turnover around college football this season. No doubt, it was a good thing Alabama made its coaching move last season.

  1. I’d say Major stays in Tuscaloosa for about 3-4 years. He’s getting $250,000 a year and this is the first house he and his wife have actually bought since he became a coach. They’ve always rented in his previous stops.
