I’m enjoying the Alabama recruiting success. But we must be careful not to once again bask in irrational exuberance. Unfortunately, even I’ve been guilty of doing it in regards to the 2008 class.

Yes, I expect a Top 5 class. Yes, I’d rather have verbal commitments than not have them, but we must keep things in perspective. There are months to go until signing day, and until the horses are in the barn, well, that metaphor is better suited for those on the Plains. Anyway, until the players have signed on the dotted line, we should be careful in declaring victory.

With all that said, you have to love the quote Andrew Bone supplied in his column for the Tuscaloosa News: “I love how hard they work at Alabama,” said Damian Square, a Scout.com national 100 defensive lineman from Houston. “My high school plays the exact system. We even run the same type stunts, and I think I will be ahead of some people. Coach Saban played a major factor as well. I will only visit Alabama. I won’t take any other visit. I love Alabama’s recruiting class. I can see the athletes in this class, and that’s why I can see a national championship coming soon.”

Hard work. I think that is really the message from all of this.

Should Bama be ranked?

That is the question asked by realfootball365.com. The essay is worth a read as it looks at the issues all Alabama fans have talked about for a long time.
