Alabama is cheating!

You’ve already started to hear the familiar, yet forlorn refrain from Auburn fans that “Alabama is cheating!” Why are you hearing it? Because Saban is making recruiting difficult for the folks on the Plains.

Alabama landed three recruits since Friday including offensive lineman Tyler Love, receiver Melvin Ray and Athlete Burton Scott.

Scott’s commitment led to some Auburn fans absurd reactions. These ranged from “We didn’t want him anyway,” to the “Obviously, Bama lied to get him,” to “How much did they pay?”

Alabama’s 2008 class now stands at 13 verbal commitments placing the Tide at 13th in the current national rankings compiled by Rivals and 13th in Scout’s rankings. In contrast, Auburn is 42nd according to Rivals and is tied with Houston at 67th according to Scout with six commitments.

I don’t put a lot of stock into recruiting rankings. However, Auburn fans are worried by the early trends. Like early election returns, does this portend a Crimson recruiting Tide? Do Auburn fans think so?

You can just look at the firing of the Hoover principal and the Auburn fans behind the Rush Propst smear compaign as proof of how far some are willing to go to punish those who they blame for Auburn’s recruiting failures.

Meanwhile, Auburn’s 2007 class which signed 30 players is down to around 20 that will qualify. The class was expected to shrink; however, with all the non-qualifiers in the class, Auburn’s supposed top 10 recruiting class wouldn’t be ranked that high today.

And while the deluded Auburn fans begin to cast stones at Saban, be sure to remind them of the grade changes for two AU recruits in Mobile, NY Times superstar Rev. Chette Williams and the laughable AU sociology department. Oh, and don’t forget the top five performance in NCAA probations.
