It was fun hosting the Crimson and White Roundtable Friday. The variety of responses illustrates the depth of passion and differences amongst Alabama fans. Thanks for allowing me the privilege of hosting the roundtable.
Friday was a great day. SEC Media Days closed, and Alabama landed an offensive line commitment.
On Friday Saban landed Mountain Brook’s Tyler Love (6’7″ 285lbs.) It wasn’t a surprise, but every early committment is important. Love is a 5-Star lineman according to Rivals and #27 on its list of the Top 100 Recruits. Scout.com has Love listed as a 4-Star and #8 offensive tackle in this year’s class. While there is a divergence in rankings, it is safe to say he is a very good recruit. He had offers from Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Virginia on the table. He always wanted to play for Alabama, so he picked Alabama.
Media Days:
I’m sticking with my out-on-a-limb projection that Georgia will win the East. It will be very competitive in the SEC this year, but I like Richt, his staff and his quarterback.

While we are talking media, one member of the Alabama beat is hanging it up after nine years. Thomas Murphy wrote a good bye column for Bamamag.com. Murphy warns fans to avoid “unhealthy media choices.” He also points out: “the calculating, self-centered and petty actions of others in the media business in this state.”
Wow someone else who thinks the media sucks in this state! Maybe I’m not alone after all. Seriously, I think the media is a very important and sacred part of our national heritage. And that is why I’m always disturbed when lazy members of the sports media use the press as a tool for personal vendettas. Good journalists are heroes. Bad journalists are like bad politicians—they shake the very foundation of our information driven society.
