A computer has nothing on Nick Saban’s ability to multitask. During the buzz of spring practice’s opening session, Saban added two new junior commitments for his 2008 recruiting class all while putting the team through a brisk first practice session.

SABAN LANDS A KICKER
Corey Smith of Inwood-Musselman, (W.Va.)
Smith “projects as a punter/kickoff specialist,” according to Special Teams Solutions, a kicking/punting coaching site. I guess that means we might get a touchback on kickoffs or something? In a kicking camp as a sophomore, Smith notched punts averaging over 39-yards per kick. Smith also has an offer from West Virginia. Smith made the commitment Saturday March 24, as he attended Alabama’s first spring practice.

SABAN LANDS ANOTHER DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
Undra Billingsley of Woodlawn High School in Birmingham committed March 24, 2007 during Alabama’s first spring practice session. Billingsley is 6’4″ 260-pound and plays defensive line. He recorded over 85 tackles during his junior season; he also caught the ball 47 times on offense.

We’ll keep the commitment list constantly updated on ourRECRUITING PAGE.

INJURY UPDATE:
One of the better athletes on the team, Zeke Knight, practiced Saturday. Doctors performed a “heart-related mumur type” surgery and have released him to practice, the Tuscaloosa News reported. That is very good news. Knight is a great player, and hopefully will get a chance to contribute this season.
